Command Sergeant Major David Harper

CSM David L. Harper began his military career in his hometown unit. He was a Track Vehicle Mechanic for Echo Troop, 108th Cavalry in the Georgia Army National Guard. He would later become a Tank Commander before leaving the cavalry unit to transfer to the 148th Forward Support Battalion.

For the next twenty years, CSM Harper worked in logistics within the supply and maintenance fields in the 148th FSB. On October 1, 1995, he was promoted to the Command Sergeant Major of the 148th FSB. Three years later he was assigned to HHC, 48th Brigade as the Bde S-4 NCOIC. In March 2002, CSM Harper was selected to serve as the Command Sergeant Major of the Georgia Regional Training Institute. He served in this position until March 2006. He has served the last year as the JFHQ, Command Sergeant Major in Atlanta, Georgia.

CSM Harper is a Life Member of The Enlisted Association National Guard of the United States and The Enlisted Association National Guard of Georgia, where he once served as President. He is a Member of the Association of the United States Army and the American Legion Post # 15 in Griffin, Georgia. He has also served as President of the Georgia Guard Insurance Trust.

His military education includes Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Courses and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He has completed three rotations at the National Training Center, Ft. Irvin. California and two rotations at the JRTC, Ft. Polk, Louisiana.

CSM Harper’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with Mobilization Device), Army Service Ribbon, and The Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon (with Numeral 4). He received the Georgia Meritorious Service Medal for the Georgia Flood of 1994 and the Georgia Commendation Medal (2nd) Award.

CSM Harper is a technician at CSMS for the Georgia Army National Guard in Atlanta. He has been married to his wife Yvette for thirty years. They have three grown children and two lovely granddaughters. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.
